Jefferson on Taxation

Although our liberal friends confidently claim Thomas Jefferson to be the founder of the
Democratic Party (http://dnc.org/a/party/history.HTML), it is questionable as to whether
Jefferson should actually be credited with being the true author. The evidence seems to
suggest that Andrew Jackson was the true architect of the modern Democratic machine.
No matter what, Thomas Jefferson most assuredly did not stand upon the pillars which
uphold the democratic platform today. In fact, his political philosophy was much the
opposite of those calling themselves Democrat today. We are confident to announce that
our beloved Thomas Jefferson would be much horrified by these liberal contenders.
It is no secret that Hillary Rod, Obama, and their other liberal cronies are interested in
taking more of what you earn through excessive taxation. Hillary Rod, for instance, voted in
the negative on a $350 billion tax break on behalf of the people. She proved herself a
flunky by receiving an "F" from the National Taxpayers Union which means she's been
stamped, tagged, and tattooed as a Big Spender. And if that's not enough, the Citizens
Against Government Waste voted her "Porker of the Year" in 2005. No surprise here.
Obama finds himself in the same sinking ship. As recently as June 2007 he voted to
reduce Bush's tax cuts for more health care and other programs. Talk about Pork Barrel
spending. Not only that, he has emphatically stated that he will actually raise taxes further
in order to fund his health care program. He pretends it would increase the burden only
upon the ultra-wealthy, but we all know how that story ends. Everyone eventually gets
taxed out the tail. The Chicago Sun Times reported that under Obama's plan, "virtually all
businesses would have to share in the cost of coverage for their workers." (May 29, 2007).
So much for the blue collar guy starting up his own business anytime soon.
Fortunately for us, we have a model of what the founders believed regarding excessive
taxation. Thomas Jefferson was no tax and spend Democrat like we see today. Quite the
opposite, in fact. He always had a vision to lower taxes instead of increasing them. During
his first annual message (State of the Union) Jefferson stated that he wished to do away
with all internal taxes, cut government spending, and at the same time reduce national debt.
And guess what? He succeeded in all of these so that by his second inaugural address he
was able to proudly say that all had been accomplished. Oh, how I wish Pope Barrack,
Hill-Bill-ary Clinton and other Spend it Up Liberals would adopt the doctrine of Jeffersonian
tax reform! But you can bet your bottom dollar that they will never do such a thing.
Many fine legislators voted recently for a constitutional amendment requiring a two-thirds
super-majority in order to raise taxes. It's too bad for us that the amendment failed, and it's
not surprising that a great percentage of these Democratic congressional cons voted
against the amendment. We wonder why.
To this end I would like to leave you with a quote that comes to us from Thomas Jefferson
as presented in his first inaugural address. Ask yourself who fulfills this Jeffersonian vision
best:
"Still one thing more, fellow-citizens -- a wise and frugal government which shall restrain
men from injuring one another, shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own
pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread
it has earned. This is the sum of good government....."
